Over 100 jackets are showcased, featuring premium photography of authentic, rarely seen WWII “bomber jackets.” Portraits of 20+ veterans and their stories are highlighted. While many of these jackets are from nationally acclaimed museums, such as the Smithsonian Air & Space museum, the National Museum of the United States Air Force, and the 390th Memorial Museum, 37 privately owned family heirlooms are also featured. For many of the jackets, the airman’s combat history is highlighted, and stories long forgotten are shared.
Enjoy additional discussions on how these jackets influenced fashion and culture worldwide by noted fashion historian Laura McLaws Helms, care information from a professional conservator, and collecting tips from a militaria expert. Complete with full index for easy reference.
The book has won awards in two international design competitions, and was named the "Fashion Book of the Year" by the fashion blog Ivy Style in the spring of 2024.
